Purposes of Education and Research in Each Major

Physiology Courses

Each major of the Physiology Courses has been set up to study the essence of life phenomena. Although the methods adopted to advance research vary, we strive to make better results by understanding as many research methods as possible and applying them organically. In addition, we strive to use the results obtained from the research in medical aspects and to contribute to welfare and happiness of the mankind. We nurture not only doctors who want to be researchers in the future but also research leaders and university educators.

Pathology Courses

The research fields of pathology began with morphologic pathology and include specialized research from microbiology, immunology, oncology, and pathological metabolism to artificial organ and transplant medicine which are directly related to clinical application. Therefore, students who are nurtured through the Pathology Courses are required to play a leading role in their fields in the future and to have the ability and a sense of mission to use their expertise to contribute to the development of basic and clinical medicine.

Social Medicine Courses

We strive to make students acquire abilities to apply epidemiological methods (public health), experimental methods (environmental medicine) to research in order to understand the relationships between society/environment and health/diseases and to conduct research which is useful to society. In addition, we nurture students who can grasp the present condition of the medical system, quantitatively evaluate the quality and efficiency of medical care which is the basis of medical care management, and understand the nature of medical malpractice and take preventive measures. In addition, we nurture students who can recognize the necessity of and practice determination of parentage, personal identification, and forensic autopsy.

Internal medicine Course

Internal medicine focuses on clarifying the pathology of all diseases, establishing diagnostic methods, preventative methods, treatment methods and everyday medical care. As progress is made in research and medical science, internal medicine is becoming ever more sophisticated and complex. Training in this increasingly demanding field requires highly motivated leaders who are able to combine ground-breaking medical research with deeper scientific insight.

Surgical Medicine Courses

Surgical medicine is centered on restoring the homeostasis of the human body by using invasive procedures against diseases. In this discipline, it is necessary not only to understand the pathophysiology of the disease but also that of the invasive surgery itself. In addition, extensive knowledge of physiology, pharmacology and transplant organs / tissues is required in order to successfully restore or replace function of damaged organs or tissues. In the graduate program, we train personnel who conduct clinical and basic research required for such surgical medicine.
