要旨

Varicella-zoster virus is a well known cause of acute peripheral facial nerve paralysis. The typical case of facial nerveparalysis by the reactivation of varicella-zoster virus is Ramsay Hunt syndrome, and accounts for 10?15% of all cases ofacute peripheral facial nerve paralysis. By contrast, the cause of acute peripheral facial nerve paralysis has yet to bedetermined; it has been termed idiopathic facial nerve paralysis or Bell’s palsy, and accounts for about 65% of all cases offacial nerve paralysis. Recently, however, it has been pointed out that most Bell’s palsy cases are caused by reactivationof the herpes simplex virus. The present paper describes the treatments, and other factors associated with acute peripheralfacial nerve paralysis based on these virus infections.
